AMURT (Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team) has been actively engaged in the impoverished and high-crime downtown area of Kingston, focusing on humanitarian aid and community development.
For several years, AMURT has established and managed a nursery school, where around 200 children are educated and fed, the management of which has been entrusted to a local association.
Together with local staff, they laid the foundations for important projects and humanitarian aid, such as the recent Hurricane Melissa, which slammed into Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane, and is one of the strongest storms ever to make landfall in the Atlantic.
